British IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon has died following a massive accident at the Las Vegas Indy 300, at the age of 33. He was one of 15 drivers involved in a crash at the second corner on lap 13 and, despite being airlifted to hospital, died from his injuries. Wheldon began IndyCar racing in 2002 and was series champion in 2005. He also won the Indy 500 in 2005 and 2011.
“That statistic of most race wins in a season is something pretty special to me. I love the Indianapolis 500, and that's always going to be my favorite race in the world, and it's going to be one of the fondest memories of my life.”
